I Brew. How do you Brew?

Lawrence is FULL of breweries and beer centered locations.

- Lawrence beer Co – Lawrence Beer Co is hands down my favorite brewery in Lawrence. I do not like hoppy beer so most IPAs are out for me. With that being said they have such a wide selection of types. This includes sours. If you have not tried a sour beer it is a must and great for someone who is not into beer. They have two locations in town. Tuesdays are the best for beer as they are $4 all day.

- Fields and Ivy – Fields and Ivy has about 15 beers on tap. Most of them are IPAs so I cannot give a proper review but Prairie Star (a Porter) was very good. I don’t go to Fields and Ivy for the beer but I do go for the service and food. I have only had exceptional service there. They have great pizza and salads. A must try is the Pig and Fig. Don’t question it! Just get it!

- Black Stag – I have to say that this is probably the brewery I know the least about. I have never gone. I guess I should probably go after writing this to give them a chance. Looking at their beer list I don’t see much I would personally drink. They do have a Wild Strawberry Passion Fruit Sour. If that is good that could be a game changer. As far as their menu it looks about average. Anyone who likes IPA or Hazy IPA looks like they will have a good time.

- Free State Brewery – Probably the most famous on this list. I personally again do not go here for the beer. Not that it is bad at all but I can just get it EVERYWHERE! I go here for the food. The food is top notch. Everyone can find something. I said before I don’t go for the beer but that doesn’t mean they are bad. They have 15 on tap and that is enough for everyone to find something.

- 23rd Street Brewery – I think this may be the most forgotten on this list only for its location. Where it is, is away from a lot of the town traffic. Once you try them though you will not be able to forget them. Top 2 for sure are Crimson Phog and Rock Chalk Raspberry Wheat. Now remember that I hate hoppy beer but the Crimson Phog is different. It just is. Come for the beer and stay for the food. There are so many options you cannot go wrong.

Honorable Mention

- Merchants Pub and Plate – So Merchants is not a brewery but they make it on the list for the sheer quantity of beer on tap. They have 30 on tap at all times. If you cannot find a beer you like here then you do not like beer. This place has amazing food. I would recommend Merchants 10 out of 10 times.
